Press Note

1st Nov 2008, Bengaluru

Dear Madam/Sir,

Sub: week of Action for Sex Workers and Sexual Minoroties Rights.

Campaign for Sexual minorities and Sexworkers Rights (CSMR) is organising a week long Action program in Bengaluru starting from November 1 to November 7, 2008. On November 1st, on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava, a medical camp was organized in Kamala Nagar from 10.30am to 4.30 pm

In the medical camp there were 4 doctors, 5 nurses, 2 lab technicians (sexual minorities) and 22 hijra social workers who rendered service. During the medical camp, general check up (fever, cold, cough etc.) Blood group check up, height and weight were provided. Children (500), Women, middle aged and old aged women and men (300) availed of the facilities.
Society looks at the community (hijras/ sexual minorities) as criminals and stigmatizes them. As part of Karnataka Rajyotsava, by organizing a medical camp, they have shown that they are caring people.

The people who had come to the medical camp highly appriciative of it, They voiced that such programmes should be conducted regularly and invited us to come soon to organize another medical camp. There was a lot of enthusiasm among all and people were jostling with each other to go for the check up.

As part of the week action of the Campaign for Sexworkers and Sexual minorities rights will organize:

02 November, 2008, 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm
